As a truck driver, I have been buying audio books for myself since they were books on tape. Now I have my own custom rig. It isn't all that tweaked out outside, but inside I have made it rather cozy. A nice cushy seat keeps my back comfy for the long ride. A cabinet in the middle of the cab stores snacks and keeps drinks cold so that I can eat and not even have to stop if I have a long route to drive. And best of all, there is the killer sound system. Now I can listen to my books on cd and hear every word clearly and crisply, as if the speaker was really there, in the truck, reading to me.

Of course, books on cd are not the only thing that I like to listen too, but they seem to be the best for driving. This surprises many other truck drivers. A lot of guys like to just listen to music. It doesn't matter to most of them they will have a few favorite discs that they will put on while traveling something with a beat, and something kind of loud to keep them alert. But nothing keeps me more alert than books on cd. Before I started listening to my books on cd, I used to blast some old time country. I love that stuff, and have loved it ever since my mama played it for me as a baby, but it doesn't keep me up like books on cd. On the contrary, it actually sort of lulls me off unless I have it up pretty loud. And who wants to blast their hearing out going deaf just to stay awake. Not me, if I can have an audio book on cd instead.

I love my books on cd. It would be hard for me to even pick a favorite genre since I really love them all. I will get books on cd on every and any subject, from thrillers to classics, and anything in between. I even have listened to poetry on cd, although most of the other truckers do not know that part. As far as books on cd go, the most important thing to me is that there is a really good story. It can be about almost anything just as long as it is told well, and the guy reading it has a good voice. That is enough to keep my attention.
